GainingEdge Announces Julie King As New AUS/NZ Partner

GainingEdge, a strategic management consulting firm specializing in the international business events industry, has announced establishment of its new Australia/New Zealand office in Sydney. The company’s operations there will be headed by Julie King.

Making the announcement, GainingEdge CEO Gary Grimmer said, “Although our global headquarters is in Melbourne, GainingEdge is an international company, and most of our work has been in other parts of the world. So, to expand our work in Australia and New Zealand, we needed a partner who could help us to devote more attention to this part of the world. Julie King has very strong credentials and an excellent reputation in both the convention and tourism industries and is a familiar and trusted face here and internationally. This partnership is a win-win that serves our business development and client servicing goals.”

The GainingEdge Sydney Office will offer services such as convention centre consulting and feasibility studies; convention bureau consulting and establishment, education and training; organisation and project management; research and benchmarking and marketing and sales support, including market representation. GainingEdge is currently the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau’s representative in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

King has some 26 years experience in the tourism and hospitality industry. She has undertaken various consultancy projects covering many aspects of destination management and marketing, including but not limited to tourism strategy and business planning, convention bureau establishment, hotel openings, quality management systems, classification systems and representing destinations. Her own Julie King & Associates’ client base includes national and regional government authorities, destination management organisations and private entities in many parts of the world.

Over the past 10 years, GainingEdge’s work in Australia has included projects in Canberra, Western Australia, Queensland, Townsville, Geelong, Mt Buller and Mt Stirling. GainingEdge is currently working on a feasibility study for a possible new convention centre in Launceston, Tasmania.

In addition to the Aus/NZ office, GainingEdge maintains an Australian based headquarter team which includes Rod Kamleshwaran who is COO and formerly with Intercontinental Hotel Group and the Melbourne Convention Bureau; Faye Langley who was formerly with the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Melbourne CB; and Jackie Caldwell, formerly with arinex and the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Both Langley and Caldwell are Business Development Consultants.
